Basic Function:Under the direction of the Chief Information Officer, the Learning Experience Specialist collaborates with faculty and staff to design and develop online, hybrid courses. The role also manages instructional media and lecture capture services, including oversight of the recording studio, coordination of recording schedules, and consultation with faculty to ensure high-quality audio and video production.
In addition, this position provides learning technology support and delivers professional development and training for faculty on instructional technologies, media tools, and effective teaching practices. By applying instructional design processes, assessment strategies, and learning theories, the Learning Experience Specialist supports faculty in enhancing student engagement, accessibility, and learning outcomes across the university.
Representative Duties: - Collaborate with faculty to design and develop online, hybrid courses using evidence-based instructional strategies and educational technologies.
- Provide consultation on curriculum design, instructional best practices, accessibility, and ADA compliance to support inclusive learning experiences.
- Apply instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE) and learning theories to create modular, engaging, and effective course materials aligned with learning outcomes.
- Work across departments and with other team members to ensure all deadline dates are met throughout the design and development process
- Conduct quality assurance reviews on courses and implement revisions.
- Develop instructional resources and deliver professional development workshops to support faculty development in instructional design, video-based learning, accessibility, and digital tools.
- Oversee and maintain the department's recording studio, including video/audio equipment, microphones, lighting, space, computers, editing software, and related technologies.
- Provide faculty, staff and students with instructional technology and multimedia support, troubleshooting issues related to Canvas LMS, lecture capture, media platforms, internal communication system, and other CLU selected tools.
- Support faculty in developing high-quality, accessible video and multimedia content, ensuring compliance with audio, visual, captioning, and accessibility standards.
- Manage, organize, publish, and distribute recorded instructional media to designated platforms (e.g., Panopto).
- Supervise and coordinate student workers supporting instructional technology and media services.
- Collaborate with Digital Learning and other ITS teams to support instructional technology initiatives.
- Create, maintain and refine the departmental work procedures and relevant records (e.g., digital assets)
- Stay informed about updates, changes, retiring assets, innovations, and opportunities related to CLUs selected platforms and delivery tools and processes.
- Design and deliver professional development initiatives, including workshops and provide one-on-one training informed by research, emerging trends, and conference participation.
- Participate in professional development, conferences, and training to remain current with emerging trends in instructional design, educational technology, and media innovation.

- Instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE) and foundational principles of adult learning.
- Online course design standards and quality frameworks, such as the Quality Matters (QM) Rubric.
- Accessibility standards (e.g., ADA) and inclusive design principles for digital learning.
- Project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, and students.
Ability To: - Apply an appropriate instructional design and development process (e.g., ADDIE) to support course analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Assess a variety of teaching methods and instructional strategies and recommend appropriate learning activities and technologies for online and blended courses.
- Review, recommend, or revise learning assessments to support alignment with learning outcomes.
- Identify and appropriately navigate ethical and legal considerations related to course design and instructional media.
- Work independently with general direction while effectively prioritizing assigned tasks.
- Analyze current and emerging instructional technologies and assess their potential use through ongoing professional learning and self-directed development.
- Approach problems systematically by gathering information, analyzing options, and contributing to practical instructional or technology-based solutions.
- Manage multiple projects concurrently while working constructively in a collaborative, team-based environment.
- Coordinate and schedule projects, meetings, and activities with faculty and subject matter experts.
- Build and maintain effective collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and students.
- Use organizational and time-management strategies to meet project deadlines and support ongoing initiatives.
- Communicate clearly and effectively in written, oral, and visual formats.
- Explain technical concepts and instructional technology solutions to non-technical users in an accessible manner.
- Demonstrate active listening skills, including conducting basic needs assessments and responding professionally to differing perspectives or conflict.
- Explore and apply digital technologies to support course design and learning experiences.
Minimum Qualifications:Any combination equivalent to: Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a closely related field and two year of experience designing, developing, or teaching fully online and blended/hybrid courses, providing training or producing educational media within higher education.
Preferred Qualifications: - Master's degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or a closely related discipline.
- Teaching experience in a higher education setting.
- Experience supporting or delivering professional development activities, such as workshops or one-on-one training for faculty or staff.
- Experience supporting educational technology and/or a learning management system, such as Canvas.
- Knowledge of learning analytics and data-informed approaches to instructional design and educational decision-making.
- Certification as a Quality Matters (QM) Peer Reviewer or Master Reviewer.
Familiarity with emerging technologies and innovative digital tools used in education, such as augmented/virtual reality (AR/VR) or artificial intelligence (AI).
- Willingness to learn, grow, and adapt in a rapidly evolving instructional technology environment.
Licenses and Other Requirements:Some evening and weekend support may be required.
