Salary Range: Up to $71,000/Annualized, commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.

Job Summary

The Learning Experience Designer works collaboratively with faculty and staff to drive, design and produce flexible, creative, innovative and high-quality learning experiences for all students in all modalities. The position will also guide course development by promoting and implementing a student-centric, holistic approach of learning design informed by evidence-based teaching and learning best practices, while developing, implementing, and supporting innovative online and technology-enhanced educational experiences, including course design, learning management systems, and digital pedagogies for distance education.

Core Responsibilities
  1. Employs a student-centric, holistic approach to improving the digital learning experience for learners and promote effective and authentic learning.
  2. Collaborates with subject matter experts to design and develop engaging digital learning activities and compelling learning experiences that enhance retention and knowledge transfer for students in new and emerging learning models.
  3. Identifies target personas, develops learning experience wireframes, designs storyboards and prototypes in alignment with best practices in pedagogical innovation and user experience design, and defines content development plans and frameworks.
  4. Designs and develops interactive elements for prototyping, testing, and supporting new learning strategies/models.
  5. Designs and develops online courses using contemporary development tools and adheres to style guides and quality standards for unified and consistent learning experiences.
  6. Ensures learning design and content development are completed on time and meets standards of quality and good-practices in learning experience design.
  7. Analyzes learning metrics to assess the effectiveness of learning solutions and makes changes to keep up with the emerging needs of learners.
  8. Creates and supports the maintenance of internal style and design documentation for new learning models.
  9. Offers technical, creative, and logistical recommendations, both within the team and externally to other stakeholders, on the design and production of learning content.
  10. Facilitates faculty professional development opportunities on design, building, and teaching online and hybrid courses.
  11. Applies Universal Design for Learning principles (UDL) and accessibility standards to learning experience design.
  12. Supports direct training, learning experiences and activities related to the implementation of new LMS.
  13. Participates on university-wide task forces.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in instructional design, instructional technology or related field.
    • At the department discretion, experience may substitute for education on a year-for-yearr basis.
  • One (1) year of experience working in the field of education and applying UDL principles.
  • This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in related field.
  • STEM-focused degree/education background.
  • Two or more years designing and facilitating STEM courses in higher education.
  • Three to five years of experience working in an online, higher education environment as an instructional designer or a similar role.
  • Experience with pedagogy and STEM focus curriculum design for online adult education, including a deep understanding of best practices related to adult/cognitive learning theory, assessment design, interactivity, and measuring the efficacy of learning outcomes.
  • Familiar with ADA, W3C and 508 compliances for digital accessibility.

  • Learning Management and Content Management Systems.
  • Pedagogy in Higher Education.
  • Microsoft Office Suite.

Working Conditions
  • Remote one day per week, subject to department scheduling policy and approval.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work.
  • Occasional travel to state and national conventions and workshops.
  • May be required to travel between campuses.
  • General instruction from direct supervisor.
  • Determines own work sequence within limits of established policies and procedures.
  • May supervise students and/or assigned support staff.
  • Accuracy and Proficiency in all phases of assigned duties.

Physical Demands
  • Sedentary work; sitting most of the time.
  • Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required, only occasionally.
  • Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.

This position will work primarily on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.

This position is contingent upon a successful background check. Verification of a valid driver's license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) may be completed as applicable. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
