Position Summary:
Central Michigan University School of Music seeks a Lecturer in Music Education. This is a full-time, 9-month, fixed-term appointment, which may be renewable. Duties include: teach courses as assigned in music education/choral music education or related areas of expertise; conduct in the choral ensemble area as needed; work within the music education area in curriculum and program development; supervise student teachers; additional duties may be assigned in accordance with areas of expertise and in consultation with the Director of the School of Music. Courses and areas of interest could include, but are not limited to: elementary or secondary music education courses, conducting choral ensembles, teach choral/general methods, music appreciation or university general survey courses of varying genres, including popular and non-Western music, or science of music (e.g., Music and the Mind).

Required Qualifications:
  • Doctorate in music education or commensurate professional experience (ABD candidates may be considered, provided the degree is conferred by the start date of the appointment).
  • Demonstrated record of successful K-12 school experience (minimum 3 years) in either the general music education (K-6 preferred) and/or choral contexts.
  • Outstanding teaching and conducting skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders within the field of music education.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

The School of Music is located in a state-of-the-art 119,000 square foot facility with a 500-seat concert hall housing a 61-rank Casavant organ, a 100-seat recital hall, recording facilities, and 79 practice rooms.
