Department of Information Systems and Cybersecurity
The Department of Information Systems and Cybersecurity consists of 16 tenured and tenure-track faculty members (including 2 adjoint faculty), 24 fixed-term track faculty members, and over 35 part-time adjunct instructors, supporting an enrollment of 2500+ students. We offer undergraduate degrees in Information Systems, Cybersecurity, and Applied Cyber Analytics; minors in digital forensics, cybersecurity, information systems, and network and data center management; graduate degrees in Information Technology (with an optional concentration in Cybersecurity and Cyber Analytics), and Data Analytics (in partnership with the Statistics & Data Science department); and a PhD degree in Information Technology with concentrations in traditional information systems, cybersecurity, and analytics/artificial intelligence.
Department of Computer Science
The Department of Computer Science at UT San Antonio currently has 29 tenured/tenure-track and 23 fixed-term track full-time faculty members, offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degree programs, and supports more than 2,000 undergraduates, 146 master's students, and over 80 Ph.D. students. Faculty in the Department of Computer Science conduct numerous research projects supported by grants from federal and state agencies, totaling over $10 million in external funding. Graduate students are well-placed at leading academic and research institutions, and six faculty members have received the prestigious NSF CAREER Award.
Both departments maintain strong collaborations with prominent university and college research centers and hubs, including UT San Antonio's National Security Collaboration Center, Center of Data Science, the Cyber Manufacturing Innovation Institute, the Institute for Cyber Security, the Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security, the MATRIX AI Consortium, and the Open Cloud Institute. Faculty have access to state-of-the-art research laboratory resources and high-performance computing resources.
Position Summary
The selected candidates will conduct and lead cybersecurity research in the College of AI, Cyber and Computing (CAICC), mentor early-career faculty, grow research programs, and foster collaboration across the departments in CAICC. This position will be supported by the Regents' Research Excellence Program (RREP) and appointed in either the Computer Science or the Information Systems and Cybersecurity department (joint appointments across departments are possible). Candidates appointed at the rank of Full Professor will be designated as University of Texas System (UT System) Research Excellence Regents' Professors.
The Regents' Research Excellence Program (RREP) was established by the University of Texas System to accelerate research excellence across its four Emerging Research Universities (ERUs), including UT San Antonio. Through this initiative, UT System has committed significant funding to recruit mid- to senior-level, research-active faculty to dramatically grow its national research prominence and federal funding opportunities.
UT San Antonio's allocation from the UT System supports approximately 40 new faculty positions over the next several years. These positions are intended to attract accomplished scholars whose expertise will strengthen the university's research enterprise, address pressing societal challenges, and advance institutional goals aligned with UT System and Texas Legislature priorities.
Through the RREP, UT San Antonio seeks to recruit outstanding faculty from varied backgrounds and disciplines who will contribute to the university's mission and help shape its future as a premier public research institution.
