The Penn Language Center invites applications for one full-time appointment as a Lecturer in American Sign Language. The successful candidate should be able to teach all levels American Sign Language in an undergraduate program committed to dynamic language instruction and Deaf community-based collaborations and learning. The appointment will be for an initial year with the possibility of annual renewal for an additional two years, contingent upon a satisfactory performance review and approval of the Dean.

Teaching load is 6 courses per year (3 per semester) of elementary through intermediate language and culture courses. Native or near-native linguistic ability in American Sign Language, teaching experience at the university level or evidence of supervised teaching at the university level, and excellent teaching credentials are required. MA required, Ph.D. preferred.

Please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, and contact information for a minimum of three individuals who have agreed to provide a letter of recommendation. We also encourage applicants to upload evidence of excellence in teaching, such as a teaching portfolio including, if available: 1) teaching evaluations, 2) sample syllabi, assignments and assessments, etc., and 3) statement of professional development including best teaching practices in ASL. A sample teaching video, if available, is highly desired, but not required. The University will contact the referees with instructions on how to submit their letters. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
