The Department of Communication at Utah Valley University is hiring a tenure-track line for a teacher-scholar for a communication generalist. We are housed within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences committed to offering students a diverse range of engagement opportunities. The UVU Communication faculty has strong ties with other universities and with the professional community in Utah. The Department strongly supports undergraduate research and service learning. Description: A successful candidate will be able to teach undergraduate courses and seminars in a variety of courses across the two majors in the department - applied communication and public relations. We welcome applications from scholars of all methodological orientations and research approaches. Courses may include communication theory, research methods, organizational communication, public relations, social media strategy, and media studies, among others. Candidates for this position will develop curriculum, independent study activities, and off campus learning such as practicums and internships, as well as engage in community service projects relevant to their academic specialty.
This position is a 4/4 teaching workload with expectations to contribute to service and extend knowledge to the field of communication. More specifically, responsibilities will include planning, preparing, and following approved course of study with measurable objectives; serving on college/university committees; and engaging in scholarly activities, and /or creative endeavors which contribute to the academic mission of the college and university. We seek to engage students with real-life contexts in local and global communities, and to prepare students for success in their academic, professional, and personal goals. Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with terminal, earned degree appropriate to discipline. ABD accepted if Ph.D. in hand by date of employment. Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content. Evidence of potential for scholarly/creative work consistent with a teaching university. See preferred qualifications for discipline or program-specific minimum qualifications.

Graduation from an accredited university with a Ph.D. in Communication.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Extensive knowledge of subject matter and course content of classes to be taught, instructional strategies (face-to-face and online), and techniques related to communication studies.
Knowledge of teaching through implementation of appropriate pedagogy, clear presentation, and preparation.
Knowledge of classroom instruction, curriculum development, and program assessment.
Knowledge of developing and coordinating undergraduate student programs and activities.
Ability to provide service to the department, college, and university through shared faculty governance, including serving on departmental, college, and university-wide committees.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
Ability to present scholarly research at international, national, and regional conferences.
Ability to publish scholarly research in communication and other appropriate journals.
Ability to develop, coordinate, manage, and foster teamwork among diverse education and training programs.
Ability to function effectively on a variety of committees and assignments that serve the needs of the University.
Ability to interact personally with students and other faculty members in a congenial and productive manner.
