Job Summary

The Coordinator of Fitness Programs is responsible for the oversight, development, and strategic implementation of a comprehensive group fitness and wellness program within the Wellness and Recreation Department. This position recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates group fitness instructors and student staff while fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and educational fitness environment. The coordinator also leads instructor training courses, develops fitness schedules, oversees equipment planning, and collaborates with campus partners to deliver impactful wellness initiatives.

Responsibilities

Fitness Programming - 50
- Coordinate and deliver daily operations of fitness programs, including group fitness, personal training, small group training, and special events.
- Provide onsite support within campus recreation fitness spaces to ensure safety, engagement, and program quality.
- Assist with the development and delivery of staff training sessions; support continuing education and leadership development initiatives under the guidance of the Associate Director.
- Maintain records of employee training and certifications.
- Develop and implement marketing strategies that enhance fitness programming.
- Monitor the condition of fitness equipment; report issues and assist with inventory tracking and routine maintenance in coordination with the Associate Director.
- Serve as the primary instructor for group fitness classes as needed.
- Collaborate on fitness and wellness programs with campus partners, including weekend and late-night events, under the direction of the Associate Director.
- Contribute to the implementation of student health and wellness initiatives.

Supervision - 35
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise approximately 30 student employees and 15 group fitness instructors.
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment for student employees that promotes accountability, development, and teamwork.
- Implement performance standards and support student growth through regular feedback and mentorship.

Planning and Assessment - 10
- Track participation data and assist with the development of fitness reports, assessments, and recommendations.
- Support the Associate Director in identifying trends
- Lead Exercise is Medicine assessments and expansion efforts.

Other - 5
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director and/or Associate Director of Wellness and Recreation. Serve on campus committees as needed.

All employees within the Division of Student Life will assist with at least three (3) student events/programs per semester that occur outside of regular business hours. Non-exempt employees must coordinate with their immediate supervisor for pre-approval of event service and the appropriate adjustments to their normal work schedule to accommodate the non-business work hours.
Examples of events/programs which satisfy the event service requirement include but are not limited to:
Fall - Week of Welcome, Move-In days, Family Weekend
Spring - Homecoming, Spring Concert, Family Day, preview days, and Junior Day.
The specific list of eligible events/programs for each semester will be maintained and communicated by the Office of the Vice President for Student Life.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a related discipline

Other Required Qualifications
Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification, or ability to obtain prior to start date.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Nationally recognized certifications (e.g., ACSM, ACE, NASM, NSCA, AFAA, SCW)

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's degree in related discipline

Preferred Experience
One to three years of experience in campus recreation.
Experience supervising and mentoring student staff in a collegiate recreation setting.
Experience delivering instructor training programs or certification preparation.
Proficiency with fitness management software and tools (e.g., Fusion, MINDBODY, IMLeagues, DSE).
