Assistant Professor of Instruction or Practice

The Department of Mathematics in the College of Sciences at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) invites applications for two (2) positions to be hired at the rank of either Assistant Professor of Instruction or Assistant Professor of Practice to begin Spring 2026.

Anticipated contract length of 1 to 3 years and will be reviewed at the end of the first academic year for renewal, based on performance.

College of Sciences
The College of Sciences (COS) at UT San Antonio is dedicated to innovation and excellence in both the classroom and the laboratory, preparing the next generation of well-educated, highly trained professionals and leaders.

COS offers 16 undergraduate and 14 graduate degree programs across the life and physical sciences. More than 280 faculty in seven academic departments support these programs, making COS the fourth-largest college at UT San Antonio. In Fall 2025, enrollment exceeded 4,300 undergraduates and 430 graduate and post-baccalaureate students.

Department of Mathematics
The Department of Mathematics in the College of Sciences at UT San Antonio is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service, providing innovative and rigorous mathematical education across a wide range of disciplines. As a central part of UTSA's academic mission, the department serves undergraduate and graduate students across multiple degree programs, including B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Mathematics Education. Together with support for pre-professional and core curriculum courses, the Department of Mathematics serves approximately 12,000 seats per year and reach a significant portion of the university's student body.

The department's faculty—comprising tenured/tenure-track and fixed-term instructional faculty—bring expertise spanning theoretical mathematics, applied mathematics, and mathematics education. Essential Functions

The responsibilities of this position include teaching twelve credit hours each semester at the level of Calculus II and below to math majors and non-majors, plus working with colleagues within and outside the department innovative curricula and curriculum development that enhances student access and success, and providing other departmental service as assigned. Working with other colleagues, in part, involves coordination of materials across multiple sections of the same course and gathering and sharing data on the student assessments.

Required Qualifications

  • The Assistant Professor of Practice requires a master's degree in mathematics, applied mathematics, mathematics education, or closely related field.
  • The Assistant Professor of Instruction requires a terminal degree in mathematics, applied mathematics, mathematics education, or closely related field.
  • Both positions require experience teaching elementary mathematics content courses.
  • This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.

This position will work primarily on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
