We invite you to join the multidisciplinary faculty of the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, Division of Family and Community Medicine in the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine, University of Utah. We are seeking a dedicated and innovative scientist to conduct research highly relevant to primary care and support the development and growth of our Practice Based Research Network (PBRN). This open-track, open-rank position offers an exciting opportunity to provide leadership in integrating research to patient care, joining a dynamic faculty committed to excellence in patient care, education, scholarship, and research. This faculty position is primarily dedicated to conducting extramurally-funded research and PBRN development, but will also provide opportunities for involvement in education, mentoring, administration/service, and clinical care (if applicable).

Our department is composed of 2 divisions: Family and Community Medicine and Public Health. This structure provides a rich environment for scholarship and collaboration. You will have access to research support including pre-award services, post-award services, and other central administrative research staff. We are committed to fostering a collaborative and innovative research culture, where your contributions can make a significant difference in primary care. We are revitalizing our Practice Based Research Network (PBRN), linking our primary care clinicians and practices together to answer community-based health care questions and translate research findings into practice. Through the PBRN, we engage our clinicians in quality improvement activities and generate evidence in primary care practice to improve the health of all Americans. The Division of Family and Community Medicine includes primary care and urgent care services, involves 11 clinics, spans 5 counties, employs over 200 clinicians, and serves more than 574,600 patients annually.

We are looking for a candidate with a strong background and passion for translational and health services research relevant to primary care practice. The ideal candidate will have experience in both clinical and research settings, with a proven track record of scholarly activity appropriate to the level of experience, including publication and external funding. Excellent interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills are essential, as you will work a variety healthcare professionals and researchers.

The position offers opportunity to collaborate with teams of highly successful researchers in the department as well as in the University of Utah Health Sciences, including the newly launched Integrating Medicine and Policy to Achieve Healthcare Transformation (IMPACT) program, the Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences, the Utah Genome Project/Precision Medicine, Cardiovascular Research Center, the Diabetes­-Metabolism Research Center, and other centers and departments. Additional collaborative opportunities are available across the University of Utah including in the departments of psychology, sociology, business, social work, engineering, anthropology, economics, and many others.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

Key Responsibilities:
· Secure extramural funding to support research initiatives to enhance primary care, including supporting the PBRN. This includes writing grants and leading grant writing teams for a variety of potential funders.

· Collaborate with clinicians, researchers, and community leaders to develop and implement high-quality and impactful research in family medicine and primary care.

· Help build, facilitate, and guide research teams involving clinicians, researchers and community stakeholders.

· Disseminate research findings through active peer-reviewed publication and similar peer-reviewed outlets for high impact.

· Mentor clinicians, junior faculty, and trainees in scholarship and research.
 
Qualifications
· Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent in a related field.

· Advanced research training (e.g., post-doctoral training, research fellowship), or equivalent experience

· Demonstrated experience in translational and health services research, including a track record of publications and grant funding appropriate to your career level.

· Strong commitment to mentoring in research and scholarship.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

· Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
· Track record of work in health behavior change in clinical populations, sleep medicine, women’s health and/or primary care workforce and care delivery innovation.

· Experience with primary care PBRNs.

· 0.50-.90 Research and Research Administration (PBRN)

· 0-0.10 Teaching, based on need and fit

· Negotiable level Clinical (if applicable)

· 0.10 Department service, administration, and mentoring
