Classification Pay Scale
In compliance with SB 1162, Western University of Health Sciences is providing a pay scale for this position. The pay scale reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position. Within this range, the individual pay is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, and work location. Please note that the compensation details listed reflects the base salary only.

Expected Pay Scale
Minimum: $220,000.00 Annually
Maximum $220,000.00 Annually

Job Summary

The Department of Internal Medicine invites applications for a dynamic and innovative Assistant or Associate Professor of Internal Medicine to join our strong and growing academic community. This faculty position offers a unique opportunity to shape the next generation of physicians through leadership in curriculum development, teaching, clinical instruction, and mentorship across all four years of undergraduate medical education.

The successful candidate will be a dedicated clinician-educator who plays a key role in designing, implementing, and evaluating the Internal Medicine curriculum—ensuring excellence, consistency, and innovation across all instructional sites. Candidates will thrive in a collaborative environment that values scholarship, leadership, and the advancement of medical education.

This position is ideal for an experienced academic physician who seeks to make a lasting impact on student learning, clinical training, and professional development. The faculty member will report to and be evaluated by the Chair of Internal Medicine and will actively contribute to the mission of fostering an academic culture of excellence, respect, and inquiry.

Comprehensive Curricular Knowledge:
  • Working knowledge of national standards, institutional objectives, and department-specific curricular goals within Internal Medicine.
  • Ability to integrate these standards into teaching, assessment, and program development.

 


Effective Communication:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt content and delivery to diverse audiences, including large groups, small seminars, and one-on-one settings.
  • Skilled at providing clear feedback, guidance, and mentorship to medical students, colleagues, and staff.

Interpersonal and Collaborative Skills:
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships and engage respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including students, administration, faculty, staff, and community partners.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to promoting an inclusive, collegial, and supportive academic environment.

Technical and Professional Proficiency:
  • Proficiency in the appropriate clinical, academic, and technological tools necessary for a faculty position in medical education.
  • Ability to integrate educational technology and digital resources to enhance teaching and learning.

Attention to Detail and Confidentiality:
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage detail-oriented tasks accurately and efficiently.
  • Capacity to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional discretion in all aspects of academic and clinical work.

  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a complex University environment while maintaining effectiveness and composure.
  • Flexibility in adapting to evolving educational needs, accreditation requirements, and institutional priorities.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to working for an organization that values and promotes humanism.


Required Qualifications

Education:

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution of higher learning. Must have completed residency training and be Board Certified (or Board Eligible) in Internal Medicine.

 

 
Experience:

  • Minimum of 2–5 years of experience in one or more of the following:
  • Teaching in a medical curriculum at an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Conducting medical or medical education research.
  • Serving in a clerkship director or equivalent educational leadership role


Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrate experience in teaching medical students and/or prior service as a clerkship director in an accredited medical institution.
  • Additional qualifications may include:
  • Formal training or coursework in medical education.
  • Experience in curriculum design and assessment.
  • Clinical or educational research experience with a record of scholarly dissemination.
