The Department of Chemistry in the College of Sciences (COS) at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UT San Antonio) invites applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Chemistry who will also hold the title of Max and Minnie Tomerlin Voelcker Distinguished Professor beginning on August 1, 2026. This is an open search for which administrative capabilities and established research excellence are criteria. We are seeking exceptional candidates with a record of high-quality research and scholarship, strong leadership experience, and a commitment to undergraduate and graduate education.
We seek candidates with national visibility and a strong research record in any area of chemistry, including biochemistry and materials science. The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field, have a proven ability to lead a vigorous extramurally funded research program, and demonstrate excellence in leadership. The incoming Department Chair will be supported by a competitive recruitment package that includes the Max and Minnie Tomerlin Voelcker endowment and access to state-of-the-art facilities. This endowed tenured position is expected to be at the Full Professor level and is contingent upon approval by the UT Board of Regents. The application package should include: (1) a cover letter highlighting the candidate's professional development and leadership vision with regards to research and teaching, (2) a Curriculum Vitae, (3) complete contact information for at least three professional references, and (4) statements summarizing the applicants' research activities, teaching statement, and vision for the Department of Chemistry. Review of the completed applications will begin immediately and will continue until position is filled, with priority being given to applicants who submit completed packets by December 1, 2025. Applicants selected for interviews must show proof that they will be eligible and qualified to work in the United States by the time of hire. This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.
