Title: Assistant Professor of Animal Welfare Epidemiology. The Department of Animal Science in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of California, Davis is recruiting an Assistant Professor of Animal Welfare Epidemiology, with an emphasis on an epidemiological approach to investigate risk factors, including aspects of housing and management, associated with the health and/or behavior domestic, agricultural or captive animals. This is an academic year (9-month), Assistant Professor tenure-track position with teaching, research, outreach/engagement and service responsibilities and includes the expectation that the appointee will conduct mission-oriented research and outreach/engagement of relevance to the California Agricultural Experiment Station ( http://caes.ucdavis.edu/research/agexpstn ). Responsibilities : The Department of Animal Science is building world-class expertise in animal welfare by hiring faculty in the disciplines that contribute to this field. We are seeking applicants who will use an epidemiological approach to investigate risk factors associated with the health and/or behavior of domestic, agricultural or captive animals. The appointee is expected to establish a competitively funded research program that includes collection and analysis of health and/or behavioral data, as well as working with large, existing datasets. The successful candidate will coordinate with existing departmental faculty having expertise in microbiology, immunology, nutrition, modeling, genetics and genomics, physiology, behavior, reproduction, and food science. The appointee will be responsible for teaching two annual undergraduate upper division courses on 1) animal health “ANS 150 Animal Health and Disease” and 2) a new statistics course to meet the teaching needs of the departmental curriculum as well as a graduate course taught every other year or as assigned by the department chair. Mentoring of graduate students, undergraduate student advising, curriculum development, participation in and development of outreach programs, and performance of departmental and university service are expected. The appointee is expected to work with Cooperative Extension specialists and advisors, partners in allied industries or other appropriate public stakeholders.
