William Paterson University

Founded in 1855, William Paterson University is among the largest universities in the State of New Jersey, with nearly 10,000 students and nearly 82,000 living alumni. The University’s four colleges— Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, Cotsakos College of Business, Education, and Science and Health—support nearly 150 bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and undergraduate and graduate certificate programs and three doctoral programs: the doctor of nursing practice, the doctor of clinical psychology, and the doctor of education in leadership.

An Honors College provides a rigorous curriculum designed to meet the needs of academically advanced students. In 2020, the University launched WP Online, a new platform offering fully online undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

The third most diverse public university in New Jersey, William Paterson is designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution and a Minority-Serving Institution. More than 45 percent of its students are the first in their families to attend college. The University ranks in the top 3 percent of institutions in the country in the 2021 Social Mobility Index, and 36 out of 171 northern regional universities in U.S. News & World Report's 2022 social mobility list.

William Paterson University is the first public New Jersey college or university to require new undergraduates to take a course on civic engagement. Students benefit from individualized attention from faculty, small class sizes, and numerous research, internship, and clinical experiences.
