The School of Family and Consumer, Sciences at Northern Illinois University invites applications for a faculty appointment at an open rank faculty level in the Marriage and Family Therapy program beginning July 2020. The School offers an M.S. degree in Human Development and Family Sciences (HDFS) with a Specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy (SMFT). The SMFT program is a two-year program that operates in conjunction with an the on-campus Couple and Family Therapy Clinic. The program has been accredited by COAMFTE since 1983 with a strong history of producing licensed marriage and family therapists. Northern Illinois University (www.niu.edu) is a Doctoral/Research extensive university with a diverse student body of over 17,000 located 65 miles west of Chicago. The position is housed in the area of Family and Child Studies of the School of Family, Consumer, and Nutrition Sciences. The School has 18 full-time faculty members and seven supportive professional staff. Being a team member in the Human Development and Family Science program involves activities in the areas of research, teaching and service. Primary Function The individual filling this position will serve as a faculty member in the School of Family and Family Sciences’ HDFS program. This individual will also serve as the full-time Director of the SMFT program. As SMFT Director, this individual will assume administrative responsibilities for the program and will supervise the Director of the Couple and Family Therapy Clinic associated with academic program. Responsibilities Serve as Director of the SMFT program; Oversee the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) accreditation processes; Supervise the Director of the Couple and Marriage Therapy Clinic at NIU; Teach graduate and undergraduate courses; Provide clinical supervision; Advise students; Help facilitate the SMFT program and curriculum development; Prepare annual reports to COAMFTE. Encourage students’ participation in professional development activities, scholarship, and community service. Maintain an active program of research and scholarship, and direct theses. Work collaboratively with productively with colleagues. Teaching and administrative experience at the graduate level required.
