The School of Design in the College of Architecture and Design at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor to teach in the Graphic Design program beginning August 1, 2020. The School of Design sits within the College of Architecture and Design alongside Schools of Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Landscape Architecture. The Graphic Design program is rigorous and highly respected, with students entering a myriad of design fields upon graduation and beyond. Assistant / Associate Professor of Graphic Design, Job duties + Responsibilities The successful candidate will join Graphic Design colleagues as part of a progressive design education environment. With a teaching load of two courses per semester, this individual will contribute to the development of undergraduate minors and a future graduate curriculum in our growing School of Design. The candidate must be capable of teaching in our undergraduate BFA and bring an interest in curriculum development. The current curriculum emphasizes experimentation, problem-solving and cultural engagement. It is uniquely designed to encourage cross-disciplinary studies and collaborations, within a Research-1 university and to prepare students for professional practice. Candidates should have an MFA with a design emphasis, MGD or MDes. In addition, the faculty member is expected to pursue an active research agenda with a strong vision of how that contributes to the future of the Design field. We offer a supportive and collegial atmosphere—one in which designers make valuable contributions to research, teaching, and public engagement both internationally, nationally, and within the University at large. The faculty member will also be responsible for service activities on both the School and College level.
