The Materials Science and Engineering at UMD currently has 19 tenured/tenure-track faculty covering a broad range of materials with a research expenditure of $13-14M a year. The vibrant research at the Department was featured on the front covers of Nature, Science and Physics Today, all within the past 6 months. Faculty research has also led to the formation of several technology startup companies, bringing research outcome to societal impact.
