Rowan University, Sports Communication & Media Department

Rowan University's B.A. in Sports Communication and Media (Sports CaM) is one of the largest degree programs of its kind in the United States. Based out of Rowan’s flagship campus in Glassboro, New Jersey, the program spans four departments in the Ric Edelman College of Communication & Creative Arts—Journalism, Public Relations & Advertising, Radio, TV, & Film, and Communication Studies as well as a rapidly growing Esports concentration unique to the program. Since launching in 2018, Sports CaM has grown to over 300 students and, through its Center for Sports Communication & Social Impact, has hosted numerous luminaries including Charles Barkley, Brian Dawkins, Colleen Wolfe, Scott Hanson, Kate Scott, and George Raveling.

Sports CaM’s faculty of media professionals and scholars teach and study the coverage, promotion, broadcasting, production, language, and cultural impact of contemporary sport. Their award-winning research reflects the interdisciplinary nature of the program and the field itself. They are primary investigators on grants from government-funded groups including the National Endowment for Humanities and the National Science Foundation. Their scholarship has been published in the field’s top ranked journals and translated into numerous different languages.
