University of Tennessee, Animal Science Department

WE ARE TENNESSEE’S UNIVERSITY

What began in 1794 as a small college in the Southwest Territory has grown into Tennessee’s flagship university and premier public research institution. UT Knoxville, which includes the UT Space Institute and the UT Institute of Agriculture, serves the state by educating its citizens, enhancing its culture, and making a difference in people’s lives through research and service. We embody excellence in teaching, research, scholarship, creative activity, outreach, and engagement.

Animal Science at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is focused on the mission of the land-grant system: education, research, and outreach. Our faculty, staff, graduate students, and undergraduate students all participate in these focus areas in part or in whole. Our teaching is directed toward assisting students with their career aspirations or providing direction for another path if needed. Our research involves all parties of the department, from our dedicated faculty and staff to our outstanding graduate and undergraduate students. With the entirety of Animal Science providing solutions to today’s animal agriculture and human health questions, we continue to generate science-based information for our stakeholders, including students. With our excellent Extension specialists, we are able to discuss and demonstrate to our producers and county agents with science-based information the potential changes and improvement that will impact their financial situation. Involving graduate and undergraduate students in each part of our mission of teaching, research, and outreach continues to move Animal Science at the University of Tennessee forward in our goal to help producers globally provide a safe and healthy product.
