The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Iowa State University ( www.me.iastate.edu ) invites faculty candidates for multiple tenure-track or tenured faculty positions at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor ranks. For the Assistant Professor rank, exceptional candidates are sought in the areas of: Design and manufacturing of complex engineered systems, Engineering applications to health and biosystems, Clean, sustainable and smart energy systems, Computational Sciences, including machine learning and autonomous systems. Specific descriptions of each of these areas can be found on the department website ( http://www.me.iastate.edu/research/ ). Exceptional candidates with commensurate experience and proven track record will be considered for Associate and Full Professor ranks. Successful candidates will be expected to establish, sustain and grow a world-class research program that complements or aligns with the department's areas through independent and collaborative efforts, establish a record of scholarship at the highest levels, contribute to the teaching missions at the undergraduate and graduate levels, engage in institutional service and service to the profession. Candidates should have strong communication skills, share our commitment to enhancing excellence through diversity and inclusion and exhibit the potential for long term leadership in supporting the mission of the department, college and university. Department/Program & College Description The Department of Mechanical Engineering is nationally recognized for its interdisciplinary research and educational programs. Collaborative research is highly emphasized by the department and facilitated by on-campus research enterprises such as the Center for Multiphase Flow Research and Education, Bioeconomy Institute, the Ames National Laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy, Agricultural Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA-ARS), the Center for Non-Destructive Evaluation, and the Virtual Reality Applications Center. Engineering will participate heavily in the university's Student Innovation Center which will be completed in 2020, providing a place where students from all disciplines on campus can collaborate on innovative and entrepreneurial projects. About Iowa State University and the Ames Community Iowa State University is a comprehensive, land-grant, Carnegie Doctoral/Research Extensive University with an enrollment of approximately 35,000 students. The College of Engineering consists of 8 departments with annual research expenditures exceeding $105 million.
