WEST VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources Endowed Statler Chair – Applied Artificial Intelligence The Statler College seeks applications and nominations for a unique endowed Statler chair in the field of Applied Artificial Intelligence. The successful applicant will provide leadership to a team of researchers focused on applying artificial intelligence tools to problems in all disciplines of engineering. The successful applicant will participate as a scientific leader in a campus-wide artificial intelligence initiative that includes strong partnerships with other colleges, especially the Chambers College of Business and Economics and the WVU Health Sciences Center (HSC). Through building interdisciplinary research teams, the successful applicant will develop strong federal and industrial support for research that applies artificial intelligence. We seek a dynamic leader with outstanding technical expertise and a proven, ongoing track record of internationally recognized scholarly accomplishments, supported by publications in prestigious journals, external funding, and a demonstrated record of leadership and collaboration with researchers. We invite such applications from candidates currently at the rank of tenured Professor or tenured Associate Professors who have demonstrated exceptional achievement and continuing promise. We also welcome candidates that have at least 5 years of equivalent experience in the private sector or national laboratories/institutes. We encourage applications from candidates that furthermore have strong technology transfer experience as demonstrated by patents and/or technology development activities. The appointment to this endowed chair will be at the rank of Professor with tenure. The primary appointment is to be in the Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering (LCSEE), however, depending on the research expertise and interests of the successful candidates, appointments (including dual appointments) are possible in any engineering department. The successful applicant must hold an earned Ph.D. in computer science, engineering, or a closely related field. They must have demonstrated professional and interpersonal skills that can help build and lead interdisciplinary research teams, consortia and/or centers. WVU is the state comprehensive Land Grant University with a main campus enrollment of about 27,000 students. WVU has a Carnegie Classification R1– Highest Research Activity. Morgantown and vicinity has a population of about 62,000 residents and is ranked among the most livable small cities in the country. The community lies within a high technology corridor that also includes several federal research facilities. The city is within reasonable driving distances from Pittsburgh, PA and Washington, D.C.
