The Department of Oceanography, Faculty of Science, at Dalhousie University is seeking candidates for a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in ocean particle fluxes . The Chair will be expected to contribute to the quantitative understanding of the effects of particle fluxes on global element cycles, with a particular focus on the carbon cycle. The research is expected to contribute to 1) reducing uncertainty in the climate carbon budget by quantifying sedimentary carbon fluxes and researching how they are linked to past and projected future climate change; or 2) informing ocean-based climate change mitigation by guiding societal measures to protect and enhance the sedimentary carbon removal potential of key ecosystems. Research focus may include particle fluxes in open ocean or in carbon-rich coastal marine ecosystems, or in other relevant ocean environments.
