About the Bridge Program The American Physical Society Bridge Program (APS-BP) is an effort to increase the number of physics PhDs awarded to underrepresented minority (URM) students, defined by the project as African Americans, Hispanic Americans and Native Americans. Overview: The purpose of tutoring is to increase and enhance the student's mastery of concepts or applications of a specific course of study. An Instructional Tutor assists in providing individual and small group tutoring services to BCCC students. Instructional Tutors provide students with pre-tutoring assessments to identify the student's weakness and design an individualized learning plan. Writing tutors help students with the writing process and not with editing papers. Using guiding questions, writing tutors elicit critical thinking in students, aiding the students understanding of his/her writing.

  Academic Coaches are highly qualified, experienced practitioners (minimum of a Master’s Degree or greater) who most frequently serve as the liaison between the university faculty of record and students within the assigned course. The exact qualifications and requirements of an Academic Coach are tailored according to individual university and program needs. Often the Academic Coach is the student's initial point of contact, and acts in much a similar fashion that a traditional teaching assistant does in a university.
