Job Description:

Kansas City University (KCU) is adding to our Pathology team and is seeking a new Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology & Anatomical Sciences. This individual will contribute to the education of students; engage in service opportunities to effectively and positively promote the University, the discipline, and the profession; and actively engage in the advancement of research and/or scholarly activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Use innovative teaching methods and the application of learning sciences in medical education
  • Delivers lectures and active teaching sessions for assigned courses
  • Develops curriculum with a focus on students' board preparation and overall professional development
  • Creates and provides a detailed course syllabus that includes topics and learning objectives for each lecture or learning exercise
  • Prepares exams and quizzes that effectively test students' mastery of course content
  • Completes activities related to the student assessment process, including evaluating test questions, performing exam/quiz analysis, and submitting grades
  • Serves as course director:
    • Creates and provides a course syllabus that includes a course description, course goals, and other course relevant information
    • Conducts evaluations, analyzes data, presents results, and recommends items for improvement
  • Provides service to the department and the University by serving on committees
  • Provide student advising and mentoring, including office hours
  • Engages in research/scholarly activity and continued professional development
  • Participates in Admissions activities, Commencement, and White Coat ceremonies
  • Understands accreditation standards and expectations specific to the department and adheres to policies and procedures to meet or exceed such standards
  • Conducts research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks
  • Conducts oneself appropriately, professionally, and consistently in accordance with the philosophy and mission of KCU


Qualifications:

  • MD, DO from an accredited institution
  • Board certification in Pathology, with certification in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology favored
  • Previous teaching experience (especially in a medical school) preferred
  • Three-five years of practical experience preferred
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues, the public and private organizations
