Summary
The Department of Biological Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position with a start date of August 2024. This is a full-time, 9-month appointment for individuals with demonstrated research experience in molecular or physiological processes of animals with relevance to biomedical applications.

The Department of Biological Sciences is located within the College of Arts and Sciences. The College strives to foster and sustain an engaging culture of discovery, creativity, teaching, learning, and collaboration, enriched by a diversity of experiences and perspectives. We are especially interested in recruiting candidates who can contribute, through their teaching, scholarly/creative work, and/or service, to our efforts to meet the challenge of achieving inclusive excellence in our academic community. The College takes a cohort-based approach to faculty success, providing resources and support within the Dean’s Office and through collaboration with Arts and Sciences departments and schools, leadership teams in other colleges, and university-serving partners such as the Center for Faculty Excellence. Essential Functions

The successful applicant will be expected to maintain an active research program that results in publishing in peer-reviewed journals and obtain external funding to support research; mentor undergraduate and graduate student researchers; teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the applicant’s areas of interest and expertise using traditional lecture and active learning pedagogies; provide service to the department, college, and university, as well as to the profession.

 

Preferred and Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Biology or a closely related discipline (e.g., Physiology, Endocrinology)
  • At least one year of postdoctoral research experience
  • Primary research interest in an area with biomedical applications 
  • Demonstrated record of research productivity through at least three publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Experience teaching college-level biology as a teaching assistant  or instructor of record


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience implementing active learning pedagogies
  • Experience teaching college-level biology as instructor of record
  • Two years of postdoctoral research experience and at least one first-authored publication in a peer-reviewed journal
  • Experience seeking external funding

BGSU policy requires finalist to authorize and pass a background check prior to receiving an offer of employment.
