Job Description

Job Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Develop curricular strategy and instructional models.
  • Liaise with departmental faculty to grow and execute all aspects of the teaching program.
  • Organize faculty development programs to support faculty recruiting and retention.
  • Recruit students and trainees from high quality undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • Manage teaching programs, including infrastructure, content, and faculty teaching schedules.
  • Manage, differentiate, and grow continuing medical education, residency, and fellowship programs in coordination with school-wide leaders/resources
  • Develop and coordinate research experiences and experiential learning for medical, nursing, therapy and other SLU students.
  • Provide career support infrastructure to students and trainees with a focus on improving graduation rates, performance on national examinations, and facilitating the transition to residency positions or first-job opportunities.
  • Facilitate faculty involvement in extramural professional organizations.
  • Identify and recruit clinical and research faculty and contribute to promotion reviews, as needed.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

  • Requirements for the position include proven leadership skills in an academic environment, excellence in teaching and clinical practice, program development and experience in research administration.
  • Board certification in Psychiatry from the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology, and eligibility for medical licensure in Missouri.
  • Effective use of strong interpersonal and communications skills that incorporate tact and diplomacy; requires an approachable servant leadership style and a personal commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Evidence of excellent collaboration skills with the ability to cultivate relationships.
  • Thinks and works independently and collaboratively to creatively and effectively solve problems.
  • Consistent focus to maintain and navigate the university’s immediate and strategic goals.
  • Demonstrated leadership competency and ability to develop productive working relationships with multiple constituencies.
  • Must have strong project management, and team-building skills, as well as skills and abilities to work cooperatively with all constituencies.
  • Knowledge of student and patient privacy regulations (FERPA, HIPAA, etc.).
  • Willing to learn and collaborate in all aspects of the school’s strategic approach to curriculum, research, medicine, diversity and inclusion.
  • Willing to learn and respect University policies, relevant Liaison Committee on Medical Education standards, and SLUSOM policies related to physicians serving as educators, and course delivery.
