Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of financial aid operations with ability to effectively explain defined processes and regulations. Ability to utilize computer technology to input/access data, maintain records, review and generate reports. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills to support interaction with staff and/or students from diverse backgrounds via telephone, email and/or in person. The ability to provide quality customer service.
Works with light material requiring little physical effort.
Minimum Knowledge and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or higher plus two years of experience in student services and/or customer services or Associate’s degree plus four years of experience in student services and/or customer services or High School graduate or equivalent plus six years of experience in student services and/or customer services. Official transcripts will be required. ***Will be subject to a criminal background check. Some positions may be subject to a fingerprint check.***
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Counsel students regarding eligibility requirements. Evaluate documents (may include interview student) to determine eligibility and financial impact. Informs student of options available. Assist with the coordination of federal/state requirements associated with each option. Responds to all student and departmental inquiries. Handles issues that have been escalated by the first level of contact. Serve as liaison for functions relevant to the overall administering of services. Assists students, at times, with online completion of their financial aid request forms. Provides information on transfer options on financial aid scholarships or loans. Review student files periodically for accuracy and completeness. Takes appropriate action to correct errors and make adjustments. Responsible for assisting students with self-service at file review kiosks. Participates in college recruitment/outreach activities; publicizes program services through public and private information sources; coordinates marketing efforts with existing college efforts. Develops forms, handouts and brochures used in program and/or coordinates related production and distribution activities. Monitors related web information and appropriately communicates needed modifications. Develops, organize and/or teach workshops, seminars, events to recognize scholarship recipients. Market services and programs offered through the department. Assists with the coordination and awarding of college specific awards, i.e., campus scholarships, short-terms loans, etc. May assist with the supervision of work study students or part-time employees. Performs other related duties as assigned.
