The Department of English and World Languages at Augusta University invites applications for a non-tenure eligible Lecturer position in Spanish, anticipating beginning August 2024. Desired candidates will have a strong commitment to teaching general education classes and experience working in collegiate student centers. The selected candidate will also hold an administrative post of World Language Hub Coordinator.Responsibilities
The successful applicant will teach 3 courses (a total of 9 credit hours) each term as assigned by the Chair to include all of the duties and obligations expected of a college professor not limited to, but including grading, maintaining regular office hours, class preparations, and following university policies regarding teaching (e.g. reporting attendance and holding exams during assigned time). As coordinator of the newly opened World Languages Hub, the lecturer will plan, organize, and coordinate Hub programs, services, and activities for Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), French, German, and Spanish.
The key measures of success are excellence in teaching and effective co-curricular programming, which can be demonstrated through such measures as innovation in teaching, student reviews or surveys, and peer reviews.Required Qualifications
Master's degree in Spanish or Spanish Education or master's degree in a related field with a concentration in the teaching discipline (minimum of 18 graduate semester hours).
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in language labs, student success or writing centers, or student affairs. Applicants with native or heritage fluency or graduate coursework in a world language in addition to a degree in Spanish are strongly encouraged to apply.Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is academic year based and typically works August through May, depending on dates outlined in offer letter and yearly contract.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0.
Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
