Job Description

The Associate Dean, under general direction, oversees and provides leadership and support for department heads and faculty within the College. Assists the Dean with academic matters and is responsible for quality assurance of administrative matters handled by the office.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads the initiatives identified in the mission and vision of the College.
  • Stewards the ABET accreditation process.
  • Supports a collaborative and interdisciplinary culture.
  • Recruits, hires, evaluates, and mentors faculty.
  • Engages in a continuous improvement process including compliance, data collection, and reports.
  • Manages student issues and student feedback.
  • Fosters diversity, inclusion and access among faculty, staff and students.
  • Catalyzes innovation in teaching pedagogy and engineering education.
  • Maintains high academic standards and fosters a cultures of high ethical standards.
  • Recruits and advises students.
  • Teaching assigned courses as needed.
  • Represent the College in the Dean's absence and performs other duties as assigned.



Required Education & Experience:

  • An earned Doctorate degree from an accredited institution in a field of Engineering.
  • Five years of experience in an academic appointment.
  • Experience with ABET accreditation processes.
  • Experience with budgets, the tenure and promotion process, faculty and staff hiring and program development.
  • Experience in both curriculum development and delivery
  • A record of progressive service and leadership responsibilities.



Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated excellence in university-level teaching.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty , staff and administrators.
  • Demonstrated ability in student advisement and mentoring.
  • Outstanding leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to effectively manage multiple responsibilities and identify and solve organizational problems
  • Ability to provide effective leadership in responding to diversity and international character of the University and College.
  • Ability to provide leadership within a College that values diversity, student centered learning, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • A record of scholarship that includes peer-reviewed dissemination of research results.
  • Excellent public relations and communications skills.
