Job Description

Otis College of Art and Design seeks an inspiring, dynamic Chair of its Graduate Program in Fine Arts to collaborate with program faculty and college administration on a vision for the program’s future following the retirement of its Founding Chair, and to manage/oversee the daily workings of the program, including but not limited to its total enrollment, student experience, faculty, administration, budget, exhibitions, and studios. History of Otis College’s Graduate Fine Arts Program: In 1954, Otis College of Art and Design conferred its first graduate degrees in fine arts and in 1990 Roy Dowell founded the Graduate Fine Arts program. Central to the program are classes that engage students from diverse backgrounds/practices and across genres (painting, sculpture, new media, drawing, photography, installation, video and sound). From 2007 to 2016, Suzanne Lacy led a graduate program in Public Practice; in 2018, this program became an Area of Emphasis within Graduate Fine Arts and was renamed Art + Social Practice. The 36 Graduate Fine Arts studios and two primary group seminar/classroom/critique spaces are located in Culver City’s thriving arts district. The main campus of Otis College, near the Los Angeles international airport in Westchester, includes wood, metal, 3D modeling, ceramics, printmaking, photography and letterpress labs that are available to all MFA Fine Arts faculty and students.
