Job Description

Buena Vista University (BVU) is an independent, regionally accredited comprehensive university offering a blended professional and liberal arts curriculum. BVU serves a student body predominantly from Iowa, many of whom are the first members of their families to attend college. The university’s main campus is located in picturesque Storm Lake, a diverse, vibrant, and professional community of 11,000 situated in the heartland of northwest Iowa.

The Master of Science in Professional School Counseling is a two-year, 48-credit hour program designed for working professionals. A cohort of approximately 60 students is admitted each July, averaging 120 students in the program at any time. Students are required to attend an intensive seven-day residency program on campus each summer, with all remaining classes offered during the evenings in a Zoom hybrid format.

Reporting to the dean of the School of Education, the director of the Professional School Counseling Program serves primarily as a faculty member in the program with administrative responsibilities. This is a full-time, tenure-track assistant or associate professor position with a 5/6 term contract. In addition to teaching courses in the program, the director is responsible for hiring and evaluating faculty, scheduling and assigning faculty to courses, and admitting and advising students through program completion. The director is assisted by a part-time faculty member, the director of graduate programs, administrative assistants, and a team of outstanding faculty.
