Job Description

The faculty member performs teaching duties and professional service for the College. This is accomplished by providing instruction as assigned; conducting and assessing instruction; developing and/or modifying curriculum; assisting students through academic advising; establishing, posting, and maintaining office hours; providing leadership for the development, growth, and support of the College and the assigned area; and undertaking professional community service. Other duties include supporting the mission, vision and values of the College and policies of the Board of Trustees; serving on various College committees, task forces and other groups; and participating in various official College ceremonies and meetings.

This is a 10-month, tenure-track position which begins August 15, 2020.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

A master’s degree in criminal justice or a related subject for criminal justice professionals and evidence of continued academic and/or professional growth within the last three (3) years are required.

Seven (7) years full-time teaching experience, or equivalent adjunct, in criminal justice or related field, of which five (5) years are college level teaching experience; or, equitable related professional experience is required.

Other requirements include:

  • Demonstrated ability to teach a range of criminal justice courses, including Introduction to Criminal Justice, Introduction to Corrections, Principles of Criminal Law, Criminology.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with students inside and outside the classroom. For example, the candidate should be proficient at directing class discussions, mentoring students, and, when necessary, engaging in effective academic discipline, while recruiting potential students and directing them toward available career paths.
  • Demonstrated experience using evidence-based pedagogy.
  • Demonstrated ability to use innovative methodologies, techniques, technology, and other delivery methods to continually improve student engagement and learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate student learning objectives within courses and to assess these outcomes; and ability to assess, revise, and develop criminal justice curriculum.
  • Managerial experience sufficient to demonstrates an ability to manage a criminal justice program.
  • Ability to establish effective relationships with local law enforcement agencies and local high schools.
  • Ability to establish collaborative relationships with colleagues in other relevant disciplines to strengthen and grow the program.
