Job Summary

Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting laboratory tests, experiments and determinations in support of AU research operations. As this position assists in implementing new clinical tests based on emerging science, this is also a technical support role within a clinical molecular diagnostic testing facility. The position requires all aspects of work in a clinical laboratory including but not limited to: maintains inventories, ordering supplies and equipment, test schedules, laboratory preparation, maintenance of equipment, quality assurance activities, patient data entry, research and development of new tests/protocols, and other duties as assigned. Requires flexible working hours and working on weekends. This is a highly advanced clinical laboratory housed in an academic setting. New testing opportunities are continually evaluated. Strong attention to detail, Ability to follow clinical protocols, Experience in a clinical laboratory with a variety of instrumentation and relevant computer software (i.e. MS Excel and MS Word) is highly desirable.



Required Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory particularly clinical trial research.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years research and/or clinical experience



Required Qualifications

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:




  • Register referral patients in IDX, Sending Caris and Foundation requests. Accession outside consults/specimens. Order ancillary tests. Entering outside cancer reports in cemer. Process request for studies from Cancer Center Preparing slides/reports for molecular tumor board.

  • Confer with laboratory director to review work assignments and develop plans for research experiments; make minor modifications to existing laboratory procedures and techniques to meet the needs of the particular experiment as required. Review laboratory methods manual, scientific journals, abstracts and other literature for information applicable to research experiments. Schedule testing, record and organize patient data, entry and resulting. Organize patient information, electronic formats and/or hard copies, In a HIPPA compliant manner.

  • Order and maintain supply and reagent inventories, maintain lab instruments, and Quality Assurance Maintain supply and reagent inventories, maintain lab instruments, and Quality Assurance. Research, development, and implementation of new tests and protocols. Update and maintain Procedures and Protocols (SOPs) for the laboratory to ensure compliance with biosafety, regulatory and Best Practices requirements.

  • Perform all other job-related duties as assigned



Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree or PhD degree from an accredited institution preferred



Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Ability to maintain confidentiality



Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills



Detail-oriented with strong organizational and critical thinking skills



Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases



Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (work outside of the normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)





Pay Grade: R14





Salary Minimum: $36,197 - $48,000





Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
