College/Department Information Established in 1829, the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, or BMB, is an academic home to interdisciplinary translational research for disease detection, prevention, and treatment. The research mission is focused on inventing better diagnostics and newer targeted therapies for the benign and malignant diseases of the bladder, brain, breast, eye, gastrointestinal tract, kidney, liver, and prostate. The research areas encompass biomarkers, chemoprevention, DNA damage and repair, drug resistance, the epigenome, immunotherapy, the microbiome, molecular signaling, natural products, protein modifications and targeted therapy. Our faculties are supported by major funding agencies, and the insight gained by their work has been published in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
Job Summary Performs a variety of complex duties involved in a basic science and research laboratory in support of research initiatives and federally funded projects; develops and evaluates new techniques and procedures; may coordinate and/or supervise activities of support staff.
Responsibilities The duties include, but are not limited to: Participate in projects and development of research protocols, while ensuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines. Perform experiments on cells and animals according to standard lab protocols. Preparation of solution culture media. Ordering of supplies and keeping journal of results, keeping lab in an orderly manner, assisting with and participating in research of scientific literature, summarizing and evaluating findings. Ordering research materials and maintaining records of all biological and chemical materials. Updating records related to experiments and research supplier. Analyze experimental data and prepare for publication/presentation.
Carry out/assist with animal studies. Maintain records of all experiments, cell, and animal colonies.
Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research
OR Associate degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.
Preferred Qualifications Some previous experience in biochemistry and/or molecular biology research lab is desirable.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to use sound judgement and work independently. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong organizational and critical thinking skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
Shift/Salary/Benefits Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required) Pay Grade: R9Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
