Job Description

This position at the University of Pittsburgh's Department of Sports Medicine and Nutrition is a 10-month appointment at the rank of Associate or Professor in the tenure stream. This position will involve conducting applied research at the Neuromuscular Research Laboratory (NMRL)/Warrior Human Performance Research Center (WHPRC). 

Consideration for rank will be determined based on the successful candidate's established scholarly and academic accomplishments and prominence.

Areas of research should be consistent with the mission of the department and the NMRL/WHPRC, which is to mitigate musculoskeletal injuries and optimize human performance by conducting innovative, multi-disciplinary, basic and applied research providing evidence and translating scientific knowledge to enhance clinical decisions and education.

The laboratory has a specific focus on Department of Defense and military human performance optimization, as well as injury prevention research in active and athletic populations.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

Qualifications for Associate Professor rank include the following:

  • Earned research doctorate of appropriate professional doctorate in sports medicine, biomechanics, kinesiology, exercise physiology, athletic training, physical therapy, nutrition, or related field
  • Productive program of independent research and scholarly activity that addresses significant problems in area(s) of specialization
  • Demonstrated excellence in research and scholarship, evidenced by extramural funding record, peer-reviewed scientific publications, and/or research presentations
  • Participation as scientific journal reviewer, on national research consensus panels, and/or review committees, and/or as reviewer for local/national granting agencies 
  • Previous experience teaching at the collegiate level for a minimum of three (3) years
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a particular interest or experience working with the Department of Defense and/or military populations

Qualifications for Professor rank include the following:

  • Earned research doctorate of appropriate professional doctorate in sports medicine, biomechanics, kinesiology, exercise physiology, athletic training, physical therapy, nutrition, or related field
  • Evidence of having exceeded the standards described for the rank of Associate Professor, resulting in the attainment of superior stature and national/international reputation in the field of knowledge and learning, as it relates to research and teaching
