POSTDOCTORAL SCHOLAR: Cropping Systems, Agronomy, Soil Science, Precision Agriculture, Plant Pathology

POSITION: Postdoctoral Scholar in Cropping Systems, Agronomy, Soil Science, Precision Agriculture, or Plant Pathology. This is a full-time, 12-month annual appointment available for a minimum of 1 year, with extension to 3 years based upon job performance. The position is located at the Columbia Basin Agricultural Research Center (CBARC) at Pendleton, in eastern Oregon. A Postdoctoral Scholar is a mentored position restricted to individuals who have received PhD within 5 years and with a 3- year maximum term at OSU.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: The position involves working on a collaborative OSU-USDA Resilient Dryland Farming Alliance Federal Appropriation on dryland wheat rotations with cover crops to: 1) investigate wheat-based resilient cropping systems, 2) assess environmental performance of the proposed cropping systems, 3) prepare and publish manuscripts with existing data, 4) prepare extension publications with existing data, 5) organize, manage, and lead field-based data collection, 6) supervise two undergraduate student research assistants. Postdoctoral scholar appointments at OSU also involve significant attention to the personal and professional development of the incumbent. Funding for presenting this work annually at national conferences is secured.


Preferred and Required Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to a person with a PhD in Agronomy, Soil Science, Precision Agriculture, Plant Pathology or related agricultural science fields. Experience with data analysis (R is highly preferred) and manuscript preparation is required. Experience with soil and plant analyses, soil moisture monitoring, cropping systems, and data management is desirable. Ability to work across disciplines and excellent communication skills are expected. A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity is required. A US driver's license is required.

LOCATION: Oregon State University's Columbia Basin Agricultural Research Center at Pendleton, OR is co-located with the United States Department of Agriculture-Agriculture Research Service. We have a 30-person staff that researches production of dryland crops. Pendleton has a population of 18,000 and serves as a regional economic center with attributes of a larger city. Abundant recreational opportunities abound in nearby rivers and mountains.

STIPEND: $66,950 per year, and health insurance for the incumbent. Health insurance for family members is available at reasonable cost. This position does not include retirement benefits.
