Minimum Qualifications:

For this position, employees must have at least one of the following:

1. Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from an accredited college or university AND two years of professional experience in automotive technology; OR
2. Associate’s degree in any discipline from an accredited college or university AND six years of professional experience in automotive technology; OR
3. A combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent of items 1 or 2 above ; OR
4. Valid California Community College instructor credential appropriate to the subject per Education Code 87355 (issued prior to July 1, 1990).

Experience Required:

• Minimum of two (2) years recent successful experience teaching automotive technology-related subjects.
• Prior teaching experience teaching automotive technology at the college level
• Demonstrated ability in a) Certified ASE Automotive Master Technician, L1, C1, HD Vehicle Certified, b) experience teaching automotive electrical/electronics, engine performance, brakes/suspension, HVAC, diesel, alternative fuel vehicle systems, engine rebuilding/machining, all automotive related systems.
• Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students

Desired Qualifications:

• Master’s degree
• Advanced education/training in automotive technologies including autonomous vehicles and alternative fuels
• Curriculum development addressing the changing needs of the advanced transportation sector
• Organizational and computer expertise, including the ability to use technology in the classroom
• Recent industry experience including alternative fuels, tires, and other automobile functions
• Recent training/ experience in autonomous vehicles and related technologies
• Demonstrated ability and willingness to work with automotive manufacturers to develop industry sponsored programs
• ASE Master Automotive Technician certification
• California BAR smog certification
• Demonstrated knowledge of the training needs of automotive service employers and employees
• Outstanding organization and written communication skills
• Recent community college teaching experience
• Knowledge of the needs of adult and under-prepared students

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

This assignment includes (but is not limited to) the following:

Instruct lab and lecture classes in accordance with the established course outline of record. This includes organizing instruction towards achieving those objectives; participate in the selection of textbooks and other materials; conferring with students; assigning grades; and providing a safe and positive classroom and laboratory environment.

Work collaboratively with other department instructors.

Maintain professional and ethical standards.

Remain current in all subject matter areas and in the techniques of effective instruction.

Work effectively with unique constituent groups.

Participate in the development, assessment and analysis process of SLOs.

Participate in department and committee work, curriculum and program development, community outreach, and other duties necessary for the benefit of the students, college, community and the profession.
