Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

To assist library patrons concerning the use of library computer hardware, software, and peripherals. To ensure hardware and software are in good operating condition in cooperation with ISS. Additionally, Library Technicians are responsible for all duties of the Library Information (Circulation) Desk.   Receives general supervision from the Information Desk Supervisor and exercises no direct supervision.   
Spring/Fall Semester REGULAR WORK HOURS: Monday-Thursday 8:30a -1:00pm or similar
Summer Work Hours: Weekday mornings and Friday 9:00a-1:00pm – to be agreed upon with supervisor
Note:  This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.

WORKING CONDITIONS:    Desk work, occasional field trips e.g. for college or program activities.  Insignificant effort other than normal movement.  Minimal Hazard/Exposure:  Standard receptionist's office setting.  At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.


Minimum qualifications & Requirements

Education:    Associate degree or equivalent education and work experience.
Experience:  More than 1-year experience in a professional work environment.

Supplemental information

Knowledge of: 1) Operational characteristics of computer hardware, software, and operating systems; 2) correct English usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation; 3) library experience. Skills in: 4) Intermediate to advance experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.); 5) communicating effectively; 6) versatility; 7) professional presence; 8) customer service. Ability to: 9) Troubleshoot hardware and software problems; 10) perform a variety of tasks with speed and accuracy; 11) multi-task; 12) assist patrons in the use of library equipment and location of library materials; 13) communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; 14) understand and carry out both oral and written instructions; 15) interpret and apply departmental policies and procedures; 16) establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
