Job Description:


The College of Wooster is seeking a Director of Institutional Research who will oversee tasks related to external reporting such as IPEDS, internal reporting processes including data management, collaboration and dissemination, and conduct research to provide recommendations for strategic planning and decision making. Reporting to the Provost, the ideal candidate will explore the implementation of a user-friendly data reporting system (such as the Zogotech analytics tool), support the IT department to implement it, and introduce the product across all College sectors. Additionally, the position requires exercising discretion and independent judgment concerning regulatory compliance matters.

Essential Departmental Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the identification, gathering, analysis, reporting, dissemination, and utilization of information at all levels throughout the college on critical areas such as retention, academic programs, co-curricular activities, and more.
  • Utilize data to facilitate planning, budgeting, marketing, and project evaluation, providing evidence-based support to various stakeholders.
  • Prepare timely and accurate report for external data requests, including those required by IPEDS, and respond to internal ad hoc data requests effectively.
  • Oversee all institutional data collection and reporting processes to ensure data integrity and adhere to ethical practices and relevant regulations. Collaborate with colleagues across campus and within the Office of Information Technology to ensure proper data governance practices and procedures.
  • Manage the complete lifecycle of surveys, from development and administration to analysis and reporting, for assessments like the IPEDS Survey, Course Evaluations & other CW surveys, such as BCSSE, NSSE, etc.
  • Collaborate with the College Business Intelligence team to develop reports, including College performance indicators and other metrics, to enable informed decision-making by college leadership.
  • Create visually engaging and insightful interactive dashboards using available tools such as, Power BI, Tableau, or R, reports, and executive summaries, aligned with the college's strategic plan.
  • Conduct peer analysis to support institutional improvement efforts.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Information Technology and the Information Systems and Applications Team to extract, validate, and integrate data from the Colleague system for institutional decision-making using Informer.
  • Provide comprehensive training and support to faculty and staff on data-related matters, fostering data literacy and effective use of data for decision-making across the university.







Preferred and Required Qualifications

Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:

  • Master's degree in Statistics, Educational Research, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in institutional research, data management, or related roles in higher education.


Other Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, SPSS, SAS, Tableau/Power BI/R, and survey software (e.g., Survey Monkey, Qualtrics).
  • Solid understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to transform data into actionable insights.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance, including IPEDS reporting, and data privacy practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively presenting complex data to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and effectively manage projects.
