Departmental Overview

With more than 20 distinct libraries, including the Doe and Moffitt libraries, The Bancroft Library, the C. V. Starr East Asian Library, and an array of subject-specialty libraries, the University Library offers services and materials that span the disciplines. The Library provides materials in all formats and offers robust services that connect users with these remarkable resources to inform their research and advance their understanding of the world. The Library CAO oversees and manages four operational divisions within the Library: the Library Human Resources Department (LHRD); the Library Business Services (LBS); the Library Capital Projects & Facilities Management; and Library Security.
The Library Human Resources Department (LHRD) provides services to an organization of approximately 900 employees comprised of approximately 350 permanent employees (of whom about 100 are academic appointees), 250 staff positions and more than 500 student employees. The Library workforce is represented by five bargaining units and labor contracts (AFT, ASCME, Teamsters, UAW and UPTE) in addition to non-represented (PPSM/MSP/APM) workforce.
The Library Business Services (LBS) oversees an operating budget of approximately $62 million, and coordinates fiscal operations including revenue-generating activities for the University Library. LBS is responsible for executing divisional financial planning and analysis activities to meet campus requirements and support divisional operations contributing to long-range planning and direct support to the Library's strategic plan.
The Capital Projects and Facilities Management unit is responsible for space planning, and the Facilities Management unit is responsible for delivery and receipt of all Library mail, packages, and correspondence; transportation of library materials between campus libraries and with the Northern Regional Library Facility (located in Richmond); space, planning for all campus libraries; and high-level facilities issues for all campus libraries. Additionally, the unit coordinates all maintenance and facilities repairs for the Doe, Moffitt, and Bancroft libraries.
Library Security handles safety and security issues all hours throughout the year for people, buildings, and collections related to the Doe, Moffitt, and
Bancroft libraries, and provides occasional support to the other subject specialty libraries. Staff in the unit guard university property, protect people, prevent theft and violence, enforce library and campus policies and California State laws applicable to libraries, provide informational assistance to library users, assist with public events, and coordinate with UCPD as needed.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $185,000 - $205,000.
The full salary range associated to the position classification is $129,600 - $254,400.
