Term Faculty, Accounting/Masters of Science in Accounting Program Director

The Accounting area of the School of Business at George Mason University invites applications for a term faculty position open for a qualified individual to teach accounting courses and serve as Masters of Science in Accounting (MSA) Program Director starting June 25, 2020. This is a full-time 12-month position with benefits. Rank assignment is contingent on level and type of experience and education. The initial appointment will be for one year, with a potential opportunity for renewal. Salary for the position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position does not support work visa sponsorship.

Instructional Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include teaching various Accounting courses in the undergraduate and graduate programs; and service to the Accounting Area, the School of Business, the University and the profession, such as student mentoring, committee membership, and interfacing with the business community. The teaching load for this position is determined according to the School's workload policy.

MSA Program Director Responsibilities:

The primary job is to lead the graduate programs in the Accounting area including the MSA and all current and future Graduate Accounting-related certificates (e.g., Forensic Accounting, Government Accounting, Accounting Analytics, Government Contracting Accounting, and other new possibilities). Specifically, the MSA program director is responsible for program strategic leadership, curriculum/program review and academic excellence, recruitment and marketing approaches, delivery including in-class, hybrid and online modes, internships, global immersions, orientations, student experience, assurance of learning, and collaboration with the Accounting Area Chair, Graduate Programs team and Area/School committees.This position is supported by advising and operational staff who handle logistics and program operations (e.g., advising, student services, scheduling, classrooms, meeting arrangements, student questions that are not course content/faculty related).



Preferred and Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in accounting or in other relevant field, with a specialization in accounting or tax or a professional certification (e.g., CPA, CIA, CMA, CISA, CGMA, CFE);
  • Academic and/or professional experience to effectively teach accounting courses
  • Good citizenship is critical as is the ability to work well with colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. J.D. or the combination of a MBA/MS/LLM with specialization in accounting or Tax, or other relevant field;
  • Experience in teaching and leading academic programs.

The Accounting Area has diverse research and teaching interests. We offer a vibrant, ambitious and collegial research and teaching community. Research is highly valued in the area and at the school. At present, there are 24 full-time faculty members in the area. The Accounting Area faculty has published in many of the premier accounting journals including The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Contemporary Accounting Research, and Review of Accounting Studies, as well as other top journals.
