Primarily responsible for the implementation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of DCCCD’s network communications systems and infrastructure.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to design and install well-functioning computer networks, connections and cabling. Able to perform troubleshooting due to system Experience in system design, planning, installation, testing and maintenance of devices, components and supplies in support of technology infrastructure deployments. Ability to research infrastructure products, services, related construction codes and standards to remain abreast of new development in infrastructure. Ability to analyze computer problems.
Demonstrated understanding of operation and repair of a variety of data communications equipment. Ability to use and understand repair manuals. Experience with structured cabling concepts and implementation. Experience in reading blueprints and CAD drawing. Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills. Ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with stakeholders and constituents, outside vendors and technical contractors to learn about new and innovative infrastructure products and services, which may benefit the district. Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Ability to maintain an accurate inventory of IT infrastructure devices, tools and components. Ability to perform preventative maintenance, repair, replacement and troubling of systems and peripheral devices. Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Strong knowledge and experience providing effective customer service
Physical requirements include bending, lifting and installing equipment. Work may be performed from ladders and sometimes beneath floors. Minimum Knowledge and Experience
Associate’s Degree with 3-4 years of experience in related field or technical/trade school certifications plus 4-5 years of specialized data communications/electronics experience. Official transcripts and/or certifications will be required. On-call, work hours may extend beyond the normal, eight hours, Monday-Friday, workday, including weekends and holidays to provide immediate support due to system failures on a 24/7 basis. A valid driver’s license is required to due to extensive travel throughout the DCCCD area to all college/locations. *** Will be subject to a criminal background check. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for the installation, maintenance, relocation, tracking, documentation, and troubleshooting of network equipment, technologies, and infrastructure for current and newly acquired communications equipment district-wide. Responsible for prioritizing daily service requests for network repairs/installs and repairs of software/hardware including activating physical network infrastructure (cabling and equipment) to support the network environment at all locations. Stays up-to-date on best practices and new technology through professional development activities. Coordinates and provides expert input related to technology infrastructure planning and implementation specific to new construction and remodeling projects in compliance with applicable codes, industry standards, policies and procedures. Identifies major problems and recommends solutions/outside repairs. May consult supervisor for repair location and approval of all external repairs, especially outside the equipment warranty. Delivers equipment to all DCCCD locations and outside repairs/vendors as requested.
Provides back up support in writing specifications for cabling remodel/new buildings. Attends construction meetings, reviews specifications and drawings, uses blueprints to verify network/voice pulls and equipment, work with cabling vendors to answer questions and identify needs, and review final installations. Serves as technical resource and provides guidance in effective task completion. Works with contractors in troubleshooting and installation. Responsible for responding to after-hours data emergencies either through monitoring from home or actually responding on site. Works closely with all location IT departments in support of data communication systems. Provides support related to LAN/WAN network problems. Maintains documentation of network configuration and equipment for inventory purposes. Provides primary college equipment repair during peak periods (i.e., registration). Must have excellent interpersonal, presentation, oral and written communication skills in order to communicate effectively with a wide array of diverse stakeholders and constituents within the DCCCD community network. Communicates technical concepts to non-technical audiences. Prepares reports detailing the results of the test and evaluation including specific recommendations. Provides excellent customer service. Performs other duties as assigned.
