Position InformationTThe University of Texas at San Antonio College for Health, Community, and Policy (HCaP) invites applications for a Director of Clinical Training at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with tenure in the Department of Psychology. This position is being hired to respond to the development of a new doctoral degree program in Clinical Psychology as well as to respond to programmatic needs of all existing programs.

CollegeThe relatively newly formed (2020) College for Health, Community and Policy (HCAP) brings together researchers and educators in psychology, criminology, demography, kinesiology, public administration, public health, social work, and sociology. The College is also home to four research centers and institutes: the Center for Applied Community and Policy Research, the Center for Community-Based and Applied Health Research, the Institute for Demographic and Social Research, and the Institute for Health Disparities. This structural organization is amplifying partnerships and collaborations in teaching, research and community engagement. Additionally, HCAP has partnered with the University of Texas Health at San Antonio to build collaborative programs, including a school of public health—the UT SPH San Antonio—in partnership with MetroHealth, the City of San Antonio's public health department, as well as a Ph.D. in clinical psychology.
DepartmentThe Department of Psychology in the College for Health, Community and Policy (HCAP) at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) consists of 26 full-time faculty members and offers undergraduate bachelors of science in psychology, a master's degree of experimental psychology, and a doctoral degree in experimental psychology. Our faculty and students have been recognized regionally, nationally and internationally for excellence in both research and teaching.
Position SummaryThe Department of Psychology and HCAP are increasing its commitment to cutting-edge research and training that positively impacts the community by seeking to establish a collaborative doctoral program in clinical psychology with the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UT Health). We fully anticipate close collaboration with multiple community partners, including but not limited to Brooke Army Medical Center, and UTHealth, Military Health Institute, the VA South Texas Health Care, and local health care systems. This PhD program in Clinical Psychology will operate in addition to UTSA's existing PhD program in Experimental Psychology. Collectively, these two doctoral programs will contribute to addressing the mental health needs of San Antonio, Texas, and beyond.
As part of a broader cluster hire, outstanding senior candidates are invited to apply for an
Associate/Full Professor position in Clinical Psychology who will serve as the Director of Clinical Training (DCT) for the development of a PhD program in Clinical Psychology. This program will be based a scientist-practitioner model and will therefore value excellence in both research and clinical training. The DCT will be responsible for developing the program structure, facilitating accreditation criteria for the American Psychological Association (APA), and providing overall oversight of program development and management. Successful candidates will demonstrate (1) a record of high-quality research, publication record, and track-record of external funding in Clinical Psychology, (2) demonstrated excellence in graduate and undergraduate education, training, and mentoring, (3) experience related to completing the duties and responsibilities of the position, and (4) have a strong background and expertise in empirically-based interventions and assessment.
Responsibilities include research (individual and collaborative), teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and service, particularly with respect to developing and maintaining the department's programs. Candidates are expected to communicate the research project results in diverse academic outlets. The Director of Clinical Training is expected to develop and manage the Ph.D. program in Clinical Psychology, with emphasis on successful program conduct to achieve accreditation from the American Psychological Association.
QualificationsThe required qualifications of the successful candidate are a Ph.D. degree in Clinical Psychology and an appropriate research and teaching record for appointment. Tenure, is contingent upon Board of Regents' approval. Moreover, the successful candidate must demonstrate their ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of first-generation and low-income urban populations and support the University's commitment to thrive as a Hispanic Serving Institution and a model for student success. Ideal candidates include those who demonstrate evidence of a commitment to collaboration in research, teaching, and service endeavors. Preference is for candidates with experience with accreditation criteria for the American Psychological Association and a history of mentoring and training doctoral students. The most competitive candidates will also have a strong record of external funding and experience in interdisciplinary research, curriculum development, and/or program development/management. Candidates who are licensed or licensed eligible in Texas are preferred to assist with clinical supervision opportunities.
