The Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV, Las Vegas, Nevada invites applications for an Assistant Dean for Clinical Education with an Academic Rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor, Academic Affairs Department, Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine [R0136942].


ROLE of the POSITION


The Department of Academic Affairs at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV is seeking an Assistant Dean for Clinical Education / Associate / Professor. This position works closely with the Assistant Dean for Biomedical Science Education, the Assistant Dean for Curriculum Management, and other leaders in the Office of Academic Affairs and Education. The Assistant Dean supports the Associate Dean in strategic planning, budget management, human resource management, compliance, facilities management, and IT management for the undergraduate medical education program.


The ideal candidate will:

  • Be responsible for oversight of educational content related to the clinical sciences in the MD curriculum.
  • Be responsible for the supervision, leadership, coordination, and oversight of faculty who teach in clinical medicine including:
  • Foundations of Clinical Practice
  • Core Clinical Clerkships: Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics /Gynecology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, and Surgery.
  • Sub-internships, advanced medical rotations, and clinical electives.
  • Participate in planning and directing the course and curricular schedules for the MD curriculum.
  • Participate in planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of clinical education in the MD curriculum.
  • Assist the Associate Dean in preparing budgets, assigning staff, and procuring resources for the MD program.
  • Work with the Undergraduate Medical Education team to ensure the MD program's educational learning objectives are met.
  • Coordinate the development, implementation, integration, assessment, and improvement of clinical education throughout the four-year MD curriculum.
  • Adhere to institutional policies and procedures.

PROFILE of the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine Located primarily within the Las Vegas Medical District, the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV graduated its first class of students in May of 2021. Fully accredited, the school currently has 240 medical students, 150 faculty physicians, and more than 300 medical residents and fellows. With a new medical education building opening in 2022, including state-of-the-art medical classrooms and simulation center, the school continues to grow.
As one of the most diverse medical schools in the nation, our graduates have been accepted to prestigious residency and fellowship programs throughout the country. Our faculty, students, residents, and fellows have had their research published in peer-reviewed journals that range from the American Journal of Surgery to Cancer Cytopathology.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • This position requires an M.D. from an accredited college or university.
  • Candidates should have 3-5 years of experience in medical education, with 5 years in a leadership role in medical education, such as course director, clerkship director, assistant/associate dean.
  • Record of curriculum development in medical education at an LCME accredited medical school.
  • Significant background in clinical education, which may include any of:
  • Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics /Gynecology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Surgery, or other medical specialty.
  • Evidence of significant scholarship/research productivity and significant teaching contributions in his/her field.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Decanal experience at an LCME accredited medical school, preferably as assistant/associate dean for basic/foundational medical sciences.

 

The candidate's educational credentials, terminal degree, experience in an academic medical institution or equivalency will be considered in determining that candidate's recommended rank. The Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV Faculty Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure (FAPT) Committee will use the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV (SOM) promotion criteria to recommend rank to the Dean of the School of Medicine. Tenure consideration may be given upon hire on a case by case basis depending on verified previous credentials, the FAPT recommendation, and School of Medicine Dean's recommendation.
