Augusta University and the School of Computer and Cyber Sciences seeks a Research Scientist. This position is considered research faculty and not on tenure track. This position focuses on bioinformatics and big data processing, management and analysis as related to molecular, cellular and cognitive neuroscience. The position involves close collaboration with neuroscientists in the Department of Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine at Medical College of Georgia. The scientist will work on big data related to, but not limited to, gene transcription, neuroimaging at microscopic and tissue levels, neurophysiology, behavioral tracing, and interact with neuroscientists to design and conduct the analysis according to project needs.

 



Responsibilities

Doing bioinformatic analysis using existing databases and newly lab collected data,

 

 

  • Developing and using machine learning methods

     

  • Developing computer programs for analysis of large data sets, e.g. data from fMRI, EEG, complex imaging, behavioral tracing and Next Generation Sequencing and multiomic analysis data

     

  • Interpreting and reporting results, preparing manuscripts, presenting data at group meetings and helping guide junior researchers.

     

     



Required Qualifications

PhD or equivalent with 3+ years of hands-on experience in building analytical pipelines for Next Generation Sequencing, large data processing and bioinformatics;

Proficiency in R and Python programing and high-performance computing;

Experienced with machine learning tools and methods.

 

 



Preferred Qualifications

Biometrics experience in building analytical pipelines

 



Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
