Job Title: Flow Cytometry Assistant, Flow Cytometry Core Facility

Position Description:

The Salk Institute Flow Cytometry Core Facility is recruiting a Flow Cytometry Assistant to assist in the daily operation of the Flow Cytometry Core Facility. The Flow Cytometry Core Facility provides routine cell-sorting and analysis services and support to the whole institute. With limited guidance on routine matters and detailed direction on moderate to complex matters, the Flow Cytometry Assistant supports core facility staff and provides assistance in the overall workflow including calibration, operation, and maintenance of all core instruments. The Flow Cytometry Specialist is responsible for providing routine guidance and assistance to new and existing facility users and will have the opportunity to work on several different BD platforms.


Education:

Required:

  • Bachelors degree in biological sciences, bioengineering or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree in biological sciences, bioengineering or related discipline.


Experience:

Required:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 6 months of experience in flow cytometry techniques and principles of operation.
  • Experience preparing samples, with basic direction, for flow cytometry and data acquisition/analysis of samples.
  • Basic experience with operation of BD analyzers and FACSDiva platforms.

Preferred:

  • 1 or more years of experience in flow cytometry techniques and principles of operation.
  • Experience with operation of BD Influx cell sorter and BD Aria cell sorter.
  • Prior experience working in flow cytometry core facility environment.
  • Experience with Flowjo analysis software.
  • Experience analyzing FACS data.


Special Requirements:

  • Must be willing to work in an animal-related research environment.
  • Must be willing to work in a biohazardous environment (BSL-2).
  • Must be able to work with high voltage equipment.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on research needs and deadlines.
  • Satisfactory completion of the Institute’s background investigation.
  • Must be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement.


Physical Requirements:

This position requires constant adjusting focus, grasping, handling, hearing, keying, seeing, sitting, talking, analyzing, calculating, communicating, reading, reasoning, writing and working inside.
