Full-Time Faculty Appointment with Benefits


The Motion Design Department: To meet the needs of an expanding academic vision and a growing student body, Ringling College is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time faculty position in Motion Design (MD) with expertise for teaching 3D and 2D motion graphics. The department has a supportive, collegial faculty and a curriculum that strongly values excellence. The MD department has robust support dedicated to using the most current technology.

Included among the Duties and Responsibilities of this position are: ability to teach Motion Design courses including 3D and 2D computer animation for Motion Design, with hands on knowledge and experience, within a structure of three courses or nine credits per semester. Ongoing commitment to creative work/scholarship in the profession is expected and active participation with faculty, department and college service is required.

The anticipated start date is August 2020. This is a full-time appointment with benefits. The salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Either a Master’s degree in Motion Design, Animation, Graphic Design or a related field, OR a 4-year professional degree in art or design and five years of significant experience designing and animating 3D/2D graphics for the motion design or filmmaking industry that demonstrates expertise appropriate for teaching across a menu of MD courses, such as: 2D animation, 3D animation, or visual effects for motion design.
  • Proficiency with current software products relevant to the area.
  • Experience with art direction and post production.
  • Strong graphic design, and typography skills, with knowledge of image creation tools such as Adobe products.
  • Proficiency in digital technology and hands on knowledge and experience relevant to the area and courses.
  • An ability to clearly communicate and work effectively with faculty, students and administrators.
  • Willingness to work successfully in a collaborative educational environment.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • An MFA or other terminal degree in an appropriate field
  • A MFA or other terminal degree or its equivalent in an appropriate discipline.
  • Strong animation skills, demonstrating animation principles.
  • Successful college level teaching.
  • A background in motion design/animation for broadcast and film.
  • Proficiency with Cinema 4D, Maya, After Effects, Nuke, Premier, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Experience with compositing and visual effects for Motion Design
  • Knowledge of scripting/programming for animation.
