Full-Time Faculty Appointment


The Film Department at Ringling College of Art and Design combines the power of film as a storytelling medium with the flexibility of the latest digital technology. Filmmaking is taught employing digital tools within a range of pre-production, production and postproduction courses. Students learn the theoretical, aesthetic and practical aspects of the field in an environment that puts the story at the center of the filmmaking process.

The Film Department at Ringling College of Art and Design is seeking qualified candidates who are versatile in their discipline and passionate about teaching with a mix of introduction and upper level courses. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching three courses or nine credits per semester. Ongoing commitment to creative work/scholarship in the profession is expected. Active participation with faculty, department, and college service is required.


Included among the Duties and Responsibilities of this position are: Ability to teach Cinematic Storytelling and Producing as it pertains to Film Production and Post Production, including Sound Design, Production Sound Mixing, Post Production Picture Editing, Sound Editing and Post Production Workflows.

This is a full-time appointment with benefits. The salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The anticipated start date is August 2020. The College has a supportive, collegial faculty, a curriculum that strongly values excellence and a robust support system dedicated to using the most current technology.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in film/television production, screenwriting or related field with a strong record of professional achievement OR a master’s degree with a concentration in a Film teaching discipline OR a 4-year professional degree and equivalent experience, training and expertise with an appropriate record of creative professional achievement in the field.
  • An extensive background in the film and/or television industry in writing, production, sound, and/or post-production.
  • Skill with at least two of the following: production, screenwriting, editing, postproduction workflows, sound, post-production sound design, sound editing and mixing.
  • An ability to clearly communicate and work effectively in a collaborative educational environment with faculty, students and administrators.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • An MFA or other terminal degree in an appropriate discipline
  • Successful college level teaching
  • Awareness of both current and evolving issues facing the discipline and strategies to best address them
  • A broad range of professional experiences, including any or all of the following: production, sound, editing and post production workflows, writing, post sound design, color grading, mixing
  • Proficiency with digital post-production software and hardware, including Adobe
  • Creative Suite, AVID/Pro Tools, Black Magic Davinci Resolve, PC and Mac
  • Knowledge of production and post-production digital workflow processes
  • Significant professional/creative practice and work experience
  • Experience with Avid/Pro Tools
