Full-Time Faculty Appointment

 

The Film Department at Ringling College of Art and Design combines the power of film as a storytelling medium with the flexibility of the latest digital technology. Filmmaking is taught employing digital tools within a range of pre-production, production and post-production courses. Students learn the theoretical, aesthetic and practical aspects of the field in an environment that puts the story at the center of the filmmaking process.

 

The Film Department at Ringling College of Art and Design is seeking qualified candidates who are versatile in their discipline and passionate about teaching with a mix of introduction and upper level courses. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching three courses or nine credits per semester. Ongoing commitment to creative work/scholarship in the profession is expected. Active participation with faculty, department, and college service is required.

 

Included among the Duties and Responsibilities of this position are: Ability to teach Producing. The ideal candidate can teach both “creative” producing (story development, financing, casting, distribution/marketing), and “line” producing.

 

This is a full-time appointment with benefits. The salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The anticipated start date is August 2020. The College has a supportive, collegial faculty, a curriculum that strongly values excellence and a robust support system dedicated to using the most current technology.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in film/television production, screenwriting or related field with a strong record of professional achievement OR a master’s degree with a concentration in the Film teaching discipline OR a 4-year professional degree and equivalent experience, training and expertise with an appropriate record of professional achievement in the field.
  • A thorough background in the film and/or television industry in production.
  • Skill with at least two of the following: screenwriting, directing, production management, production design, cinematography, editing, sound, post sound design.
  • An ability to clearly communicate and work effectively in a collaborative educational environment with faculty, students and administrators.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An MFA or other terminal degree in an appropriate field
  • Successful college level teaching
  • Knowledge of both current and evolving issues facing the field and strategies to best address them
  • Ability to teach Screenwriting and Cinematic Storytelling as it pertains to professional narrative Film Production.
  • A broad range of professional experiences, including any or all of the following: story development, financing, production, post-production, distribution, marketing.
  • Proficiency with various screenwriting, editing and production software.
  • Knowledge of digital cine cameras, grip and lighting gear, production sound equipment, set construction, and post production color grading and mixing.
  • Knowledge of production and post-production digital workflow processes, including DIT, script supervising, use of Avid/Pro Tools, and post-production supervising.
  • Significant professional practice and work experience.
