Full-Time Faculty Appointment with Benefits

 

Computer Illustration

 

Position: The Illustration program at Ringling College of Art and Design has an established curriculum in both General Illustration and Visual Development (a separate emphasis within the Illustration program). Both programs employ digital and traditional media. In order to meet the needs of these areas, the College is seeking qualified candidates that are broadly trained in their discipline and passionate about teaching digital and traditional media in a collaborative environment. Candidates should have the expertise and ability to teach and incorporate the following competencies and instructional skill sets within a structure of three courses or nine credits per semester.

 

Skills for this position include:

  • Proficiency in both Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop image making techniques
  • Proficiency in visual storytelling as is relates to Illustration and/or entertainment industries
  • Proficiency with 3D modeling in Z-brush

 

Included among the Duties and Responsibilities of this position are:

  • Collaborating with other faculty teaching the same courses to optimize delivery of the common competencies to students
  • Sharing projects, examples and resources with area colleagues
  • Participation with on-going project reviews
  • Work with Colleagues and Department Heads on variations or improvements to the delivery of the common competencies
  • Attending relevant area meetings and critiques
  • Attend and participate in end-of-semester curricular reviews, assessment and planning meetings

 

This is a full-time faculty appointment with benefits. The salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The anticipated start date is August 2020. The College has a supportive, collegial faculty, a curriculum that strongly values excellence and a robust support system dedicated to using the most current technology. Ideal candidates will be comfortable working across disciplines and encompassing broader approaches to art practices, teaching and a program of continuous assessment of student learning.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree, OR a 4-year professional degree in art or design and equivalent professional experience, training and expertise with an appropriate record of achievement in the field
  • An ability to clearly communicate and work effectively with faculty, students and administrators
  • Proficiency in digital technology relevant to the area and courses
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative educational environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A MFA or other terminal degree in an appropriate discipline
  • Successful college level teaching
  • An active record of creative achievement, professional activity or exhibitions as it relates to digital and traditional illustration techniques.
