Position Status: Full-Time
Office of Public Safety. The Police Officer actively patrols campus and enforces Georgia Law and University policies and procedures to support and promote a safe campus.
Performs related duties as assigned to support the mission of the University.
Patrols campus acting as a deterrent to criminal activity, responding to calls for service and assists as needed.
Investigates accidents, crimes and other complaints; issues parking citations and arrests, processes, and transports suspects accused of violating Georgia law.
Appears and testifies in campus judicial and Court hearings.
Performs security checks on-campus buildings, parking lots, and residence halls to ensure all buildings are safe and secure.
Completes reports and maintains departmental records.
Directs traffic and assists stranded motorists by providing unlocks and/or jumpstarts.
Assists other area law enforcement agencies as needed and requested.
Works special events including sporting events, social events, parades, and large gatherings.
Follows departmental safety and risk management policies in performance of work.
Maintains, repairs, and cleans tools, equipment, and work areas.
Works an on-call schedule.

Minimum Education Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent; ability to obtain P.O.S.T. certification in Georgia as a basic law enforcement officer.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Effective communication (verbal and written), organization and human relations skills; ability to work well in a diverse environment; proficiency with computer and Microsoft Office Applications software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; legally authorized to work in the United States; successful completion of background investigation prior to employment.
Georgia P.O.S.T (Peace Officer Standards and Training) Certified as a basic law enforcement (police) Peace Officer or ability to obtain certification in six months after employment
